Cutting Edge

Virtual surgical Planning

How it Works

Step 1: 3D scan of the face and jaws

A detailed 3D scan is taken to capture the exact shape of your jaws, teeth, and facial bones.

Step 2: Digital planning of jaw movements

Using specialised computer software, Mr Hills plans the surgery virtually, moving the jaws on screen to achieve the correct bite, balance, and facial proportions — all before surgery.

Step 3: Precise planning and safety checks

The final jaw positions are carefully checked for accuracy, symmetry, and safety, including protection of nerves and surrounding structures.

Step 4: Custom surgical guides

From the digital plan, custom-made surgical guides (splints) are produced specifically for you. These guides help position the jaws accurately during the operation.

Step 5: Surgery performed exactly to plan

During surgery, the custom guides allow the operation to be carried out exactly as planned, improving precision and predictability.

Why VSP matters for patients

  • More accurate jaw positioning

  • Better planning before surgery, with fewer surprises

  • Clearer explanation of what is being corrected

  • Consistent, reliable outcomes, especially in complex cases

VSP represents a modern, evidence-based approach to jaw surgery and is now considered best practice in specialist orthognathic care.
